On November 21st President Leonel Fernandez enacted the Law for the Promotion of the Cinema Industry, in the presence of actors Benicio del Toro, Victoria Abril and Claudia Cardinale, whose work was recognized in a ceremony on Saturday.
President Fernandez said the law would mean the definite take-off of the Dominican film industry, because a legal framework had been needed to encourage investment in the field. The new law has encouraged producers to invest in making films in the country, with five films expected to be shot next year, according to Fernandez.
